Organic agriculture
What is an organic product?
In China, an Organic Product is defined as a plant and/or animal product intended for human
consumption and/or animal feeding, which is produced and processed in accordance with The China National Organic Product Standard (GB/T 19630-2019). The products can be sold legally as organic products in Chinese market only with certification of China organic standard.
Organic production refers to an agricultural production mode,a system without use biological products obtained through genetic engineering, chemically synthesized pesticides, chemical fertilizers, growth regulators, feed additives and other harmful substances, a system which follows natural laws and ecological principles, coordinates the balance between planting and aquaculture, and maintains a sustainable production system.
Organic processing refers to a processing method that mainly uses organic ingredients, without use of biological products obtained through genetic engineering in the processing process, and minimizes the use of chemically synthesized additives, processing aids, dyes and other inputs, so as to maintain the nutritional content and/or original properties of the product to the greatest extent.
Prerequisites of a certification application
-Applicants shall have legal business qualifications (ex. obtain the legal administrative license)
-A management system for producing, processing and handling organic products has been established and implemented effectively for more than three months.
-Products applying for certification shall be included within the Certification Catalog for Organic Products published by National Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA).
-Certificates of applicants have not been withdrawn within the last 5 years because of any of the following activities: Providing false information; Illegally using prohibited substances; Using organic certification marks beyond the specified scope, or causing major incidents on product quality and safety.
-Applicants shall not have certificate revocation records within the previous year, because of the activities other than those listed above.
Essential features of organic products
- Raw material origins from organic agricultural production systems that have not used prohibited substances in the past 24, respectively 36 months;
- Do not use substances prohibited by GB/T 19630 and/ or biological products obtained through genetic engineering in production and processing;
- No contamination during production, processing, packaging, transportation, storage
and marketing;
- Complete quality control and traceability system;
- Certification is issued by CNCA approved certification body.
- Each kind of product has only one identification code.
